Minutes of January 13, 2002 meeting

Classroom B – Memphis Theological Seminary

Present: Barry Anderson, Dennis Beets, Tom Boulden, Bill Cupo, Janet Cupo, Knick Knickerbocker, Sandie Knickerbocker, Anna Leeper, Ann Marty, Bill Marty, Joey Rosas.
Dennis Beets opened the meeting with prayer.

Joey Rosas announced that last minute reservations are available for “An Inklings Weekend at the Cove” on January 18-19, 2002.

The program was a viewing of a video of “The Magic Never Ends,” the new documentary on the life and work of C. S. Lewis.  Discussion followed.

The next meeting will be on February 10. The topic will be the essay “Myth Become Fact” (God in the Dock) and the October 18, 1931 letter to Arthur Greeves discussing Lewis’ understanding of myth.

Minutes of February 10, 2002 meeting

Brockwell Room – Memphis Theological Seminary

Present: Barry Anderson, Dennis Beets, Tom Boulden, Harriett Ferrell, Ann Marty, Bill Marty.

Dennis Beets opened the meeting with prayer.

Barry Anderson read a letter of greetings from Karen Mulder.

The program was a discussion of the essay “Myth Became Fact” (God in the Dock) and a letter from CS Lewis to Arthur Greeves, dated October 18, 1931, in which he discussed his understanding of myth and how it related to his conversion.

The next meeting will be on March 10.  The program will be a discussion of three chapters of Reflections on the Psalms, chapter 1 – “Introduction”, chapter 2, “Judgment in the Psalms”, and chapter 3 – “The Cursings.”

Dennis Beets opened the meeting with prayer.

Bill Marty reminded everyone about the Christianity in the Academy Conference at the University of Memphis on April 5, 2002.

The program was a reading and discussion of two chapters from Reflections on the Psalms, chapter 1 – “Introduction” and chapter 2 – “Judgment in the Psalms.”

The next meeting will be on April 14.  The program will be a discussion of three chapters of Reflections on the Psalms, chapter 3 – “The Cursings”, chapter 4, “Death in the Psalms”, and chapter 5 – “The Fair Beauty of the Lord.”

The program was a discussion of a chapter from Reflections on the Psalms, chapter 3 – “The Cursings.”

The next meeting will be on May 12.    The program will be a paper by Dr. Hal Poe.  The topic of the paper is C. S. Lewis and Our Attitude toward Others.

The program was a paper presented by Dr. Hal Poe, C. S. Lewis and Our Attitude toward Others.Originally, the paper was  read to the Christianity in the Academy Conference at the University of Memphis.  Discussion followed.

The next meeting will be on June 2.    The program will be a discussion of two chapters of Reflections on the Psalms, chapter 4 – “Death in the Psalms” and chapter 5 – “The Fair Beauty of the Lord.”

The next meeting will be on November 10.    The program will be reviews of two recently published books about Lewis, The Imaginative World of C. S. Lewisby Mineko Honda (presented by Tom Boulden) and A Far-Off Country: A Guide to C. S. LewisFantasy Fiction by Martha C. Sammons (presented by Dennis Beets).
