Minutes of January 9, 2005 meeting

Brockwell Room – Memphis Theological Seminary
Present: Barry Anderson, Dennis Beets, Kate Chilton, Bob Tyson
Dennis Beets opened the meeting with prayer.

The program consisted of a study of chapter 11 of Perelandra, including a rousing discussion about Lewis’s comment that Predestination and Free Will were the same thing.
The next meeting will be on February 13 and the program will be a discussion of Perelandra chapters 12-14.

Bill Marty extended an invitation to participate in the annual Christianity in the Academy Conference held on April 22, 2005 at the University of Memphis.
The program consisted of a discussion of Perelandra chapters 15-17.
The next meeting will be on April 10 and the program will be a presentation by Pamela Proietti on the life and writings of Charles Williams.

Dennis Beets opened the meeting with prayer.

Barry Anderson announced the “Past Watchful Dragons” Conference at Belmont University on November 3-5, 2005.
It was noted that Bill Marty and Ann Marty are retiring to Yakima, WA and will be greatly missed by the Society.
The program featured a discussion of chapters 1-3 of Charles Williams’ The Forgiveness of Sins.
The next meeting will be on June 12 and the program will be a discussion of chapters 4-5 of Williams’ The Forgiveness of Sins.

Dennis Beets opened the meeting with prayer.
The program featured a discussion of chapter 4 of Charles Williams’ The Forgiveness of Sins, particularly concentrating on the question of blood sacrifice being essential for the forgiveness of sins.
The next meeting will be on July 10 and the program will be a discussion of chapters 5-6 of Williams’ The Forgiveness of Sins.

Dennis Beets opened the meeting with prayer.

Dennis Beets led in a discussion about The Magician�s Nephew.  The conversation included a general discussion about the two ways of ordering books in the Narnia series and specific discussion about the theme of the incarnation (referencing Charles Williams� statement about the God plan to become incarnate even before the Fall).

The next meeting will be on October 9 and the program will be a continuation of the themes in The Magician�s Nephew.

David Moose presented a clip from a recent National Public Radio program on the marketing of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.  Dennis Beets provided samples of the advertising campaign for the movie.

Barry Anderson led in a discussion of The Magician�s Nephew as a means of understanding the origin of Narnia.

The next meeting will be on December 11 and will be dedicated to a discussion of the movie, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.

After a time of fellowship and holiday snacks, Dennis Beets opened the meeting with prayer.
Tom Boulden presented to the group a rare copy of Weeping Bay by Joy Davidman Lewis.
The discussion focused on the newly released movie, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.
The next meeting will be on January 8 and the program will be a discussion of chapters 1-3 of That Hideous Strength.
