Minutes of January 8, 2006 meeting

Present:  Barry Anderson, Dennis Beets, Tom Boulden, Bill Cupo, JanetCupo, Rebecca Cupo, Alex Gray, Don Johnson, Robert Sealand, Sarah Sealand, John Simmons.

Barry Anderson opened the meeting with prayer.
The program featured a discussion of chapters 1 � 3 of Lewis� That Hideous Strength.  An interesting discussion centered on the various themes presented in the book, particularly Lewis’ covert comments on the relationship of marriage.
The next meeting will be on February 12 and the program will be a discussion of chapters 4 – 6 of That Hideous Strength.

Present:  Barry Anderson, Justin Barnard, Dennis Beets, Ian Borowicz, Kate Chilton, Bill Cupo, Janet Cupo, Harriett Ferrell, Alex Gray, DonJohnson, Pam Proietti, John Simmons, Linda Simmons.
Dennis Beets opened the meeting with prayer.
Pam Proietti reminded everyone of the upcoming �Christianity in the Academy� Conference at the University of Memphis on March 31, 2006. Hal Poe is the keynote speaker.
The program featured a discussion of chapters 4 � 5 of Lewis� That Hideous Strength. Two topics of particular interest were the type of person represented by the character of Mr. Straik and the continuing parallels between the events in the Mark and Jane Studdock.
The next meeting will be on March 12 and the program will be a discussion of chapters 6-8 of That Hideous Strength.

Bill Marty reminded everyone of the upcoming �Christianity in the Academy� Conference at the University of Memphis on March 31, 2006. Hal Poe is the keynote speaker.
Barry Anderson presented a request from Blackwell Publishing for opinions on a book proposal about Lewis.  Opinions will be forwarded to Blackwell.
The program featured a discussion of chapters 6 � 7 of Lewis� That Hideous Strength. Topics of particular interest were 1) similarities between the events in the lives of Mark and Jane Studdock and the dissimilarities of their responses to those events; 2) the reaction of Fisher-King to Jane as she begins, for the first time in her life, to understand what obedience really means; and 3) the continued development of Lewis’ ideas about marriage and friendship.
The next meeting will be on April 9 and the program will be a discussion of chapters 8-10 of That Hideous Strength.
