Memphis C. S. Lewis Society Minutes of April 5, 1998 meeting Brockwell Room - Memphis Theological Seminary Present: Dennis Beets, Janet Cupo, Ann Marty, Bill Marty, Andy McClung, Bob Oliver, Judith Oliver. Dennis Beets opened the meeting with prayer. Dennis Beets brought an update on the search for permanent meeting facility. After a thorough investigation of possible meeting accommodations, it was decided to contact Memphis Seminary concerning a permanent arrangement. Bill Marty and Dennis Beets reported on the recent Christianity in the Academy Conference at the University of Memphis. The focus of the Conference was C. S. Lewis. Approximately 75 people were present to hear the presentations 22 papers and panel discussions throughout the weekend. Knick Knickerbocker and Dennis Beets presented papers at the conference. The program was a continued discussion about Lewis' essay, "Modern Man and His Categories of Thought" found in Present Concerns. Dennis Beets summarized the essay for those who had not read it and a lively discussion stemmed from topics presented in the essay. The next meeting will be on May 10. The program will be a discussion of chapters one and two of The Great Divorce. Submitted by Barry Anderson |
