Memphis C. S. Lewis Society
Minutes for September 14, 1997
First Evangelical Church Present: Barry Anderson, Dennis Beets, Janet Cupo, Ann Marty, Bill Marty, Andy McClung, Ronnie Stevens
Barry Anderson served as moderator for the program, which centered around a review of The Roar of Love, a 1978 musical interpretation of Lewis' The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. The lyrics and music were written and performed by contemporary Christian artists known as The Second Chapter of Acts. Preliminary discussion focused on the background of the artists, the LWW text, and interpretative freedom. Each set of lyrics was read prior to listening to a recording of the musical interpretation. Occasional readings from the LWW were provided.
Dennis Beets presented a working copy of the society's newsletter, "The Unicorn's Horn." Subscriptions will be made available for $10.00 a year.
Bill Marty reminded the society about the Christianity in the Academy Conference on C.S. Lewis. The conference will be held at The University of Memphis on March 27, 1998. Society members were encouraged to present papers and/or develop a panel discussion for the conference.
