Memphis C. S. Lewis Society Minutes for February 8, 1998 Brockwell Room - Memphis Theological Seminary Present: Barry Anderson, Dennis Beets, Janet Cupo, Knick Knickerbocker, Ann Marty, Bill Marty, Andy McClung, Bob Oliver, Judith Oliver.The meeting was opened by reading the Collect of the Day for the Fifth Sunday after Epiphany. Dennis Beets brought an update on the search for permanent meeting facility. He will contact St. John's Episcopal Church and Second Presbyterian Church. If neither place is available, he will contact Memphis Seminary concerning a permanent arrangement. Barry Anderson served as moderator for the program. The discussion focused on Lewis' poetry. Everyone read a selection from Poems or Spirits in Bondage. An interpretive discussion followed a number of the readings. The March meeting will focus on Lewis' essay, "Modern Man and His Categories of Thought" found in Present Concerns. The April meeting will be held on the first Sunday (April 5) to avoid a conflict with Easter. The subject of the discussion will be Boxen. Submitted by Barry Anderson |
