Memphis C. S. Lewis Society Minutes of February 8, 2004 meeting Brockwell Room - Memphis Theological Seminary Present: Barry Anderson, Dennis Beets, Tom Boulden, Bryan Carter, Bill Cupo, Janet Cupo, Rebecca Cupo, Alex Gray, Don Johnson, Ann Marty, Bill Marty. Beets opened the meeting with prayer. Marty announced the 2004 "Christianity and the Academy" Conference at the University of Memphis on April 2, 2004. The theme of the conference will be "Confronting the Academy with a Christian Vision" and the keynote speaker will be Bill Jenkins. Beets led a discussion about the status of the non-profit application of the society. A bank account will be set up soon and donations were solicited to defray the costs. Beets announced that a local artist has been commissioned to produce a Lewis-themed painting and the prints would be sold as a fundraiser for the work of the society. The program consisted of a discussion of chapters 17-22 of Out of the Silent Planet. The next meeting will be on March 14 and the program will be announced prior to the meeting.
